Laser Hair Removal FAQ’s

Q: How does the LightSheer Diode Laser System work?
A: The laser pulses near infrared laser light directly to the pigment located within the hair follicle. The pulse time lasts long enough to damage the follicle, which is typically a fraction of a second. The patented contact-cooling hand piece called the ChillTip helps protect the skin by conductive cooling throughout the treatment process.

Q: Why should I use the LightSheer Diode Laser System rather than the methods I’ve been using for years?
A: Providing a comfortable timely treatment, the LightSheer Diode Laser offers speed accuracy and minimal risk of infection. Unlike most laser hair removal processes the LightSheer Diode Laser is a very precise, non-invasive instrument, increasing the efficiency of the hair removal process, allowing a large area to be treated at one time, leaving the skin surrounding the treatment area minimally affected.

Q: Does the LightSheer Laser work on tanned or different skin colors?
A: The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively treats all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI). For darker skin types and people with tans, appropriate pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the epidermis. Using the appropriate treatment parameters people with all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal with the LightSheer.

Q: Are the Results Permanent?
A: Cleared by the FDA, the LightSheer laser requires 6-8 treatments for permanent hair reduction on all skin types and tanned skin.

Q: Is it safe?
A: While side effects are rare there are several things that can occur if you do not follow all post treatment instructions carefully. Darkening (hyper-pigmentation) may occur, especially in clients with darker skin tone, skin lightening (hypo-pigmentation) can occur as well. Both of these side effects can fade over time, but may be also permanent. There is a small chance of scarring (less than 1%).

Q: Is it painful?
A: Eliminating unwanted hair is never a completely painless process. The LightSheer Diode Laser System provides the ChillTop conductive cooling hand piece which helps reduce any discomfort by cooling the skin during treatment. Topical anesthetic cream may be used to reduce comfort in large or sensitive areas. Cool compresses and soothing gels are applied after treatment.

Q: How long does it take?
A: The size of the treatment area is the main determinant for the length of treatment, the larger the area the longer the treatment.

Q: What will the treated area look like after the treatment?
A: Immediately following treatment the area may feel like mild sunburn, appearing slightly swollen and red in color. After a few hours this reaction should be gone and the area should appear completely normal.

Q: When can I use make-up?
A: We do not recommend applying Make up for at least 24 hours following the treatment. You may use newly purchased, mineral makeup if necessary.

Q: How long do I have to avoid the sun?
A: After treatment it is best to avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks. Sun protection of at least SPF 30 is recommended between treatments.

Q: How far apart are the treatments spaced?
A: We recommend, depending on the part of the body, from 7 to 16 weeks in between treatments.

Q: What areas can be treated?
A: All areas of the body except for the area around the eye.

Q: When can the laser not be used?
A: Treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant, taking the medication Accutane, if you develop keloids or if you have recently been waxed, tweezed or received electrolysis. We do not recommend using the laser if you suffer from cold sores or genital herpes.

Q: How much will the treatments cost?
A: The size of the area to be treated and the number of treatments that will be necessary will determine the cost of treatment.
