The Center for Skin Wellness uses the Levulan Photodynamic Therapy System (PDT System) to treat Actinic Keratoses (AKs), or "sun spots" on the face and scalp that are caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet light, such as sunlight. This treatment can help to prevent the progression of AKs into skin cancer.
A topical solution is applied and the area is then exposed to the light given off by the BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator. The AK cells are destroyed in the treatment process leaving healthy cells behind.
